Sharjah was the birth place of rugby in the UAE when the British Forces were stationed there. The SWRFC first appeared in the red and black hooped jerseys of Edinburgh Wanderers in September 1976. Over ten years ago two prominent member s, Steve Higson and Rob Gough, literally grabbed a bunch of the old and the bold for a vet’s team. The original name was the Fat Old Boys. The rules of the team were - no training and a can of nectar at every stoppage. Knowledge of the game was optional. The SWRFC Vets have been Runners-Up for the past two years in the Waterford Trophy at the Dubai 7's.
